چکیده

This study investigates user acceptance of a new e-learning system when users can choose between the old and the new systems. Drawing upon construal level theory and technology acceptance model, this study proposes that users’ construal level of an e-learning system interacts with their perceptions of the system (i.e., PEoU and PU) and affects their adoption intention. Data collected from 131 participants in a laboratory experiment show that a higher construal level strengthened the effect of PEoU but mitigated the effect of PU on participants’ attitude toward using the system, thus affecting adoption intention. Theoretical contributions and implications are discussed. 2014 Elsevier B.V. E-Learning System Implementation: Implications from the Construal Level Theory

Understanding the factors that affect users’ acceptance of e-learning systems is critical for the success of adopting an e-learning system. Drawing upon the Construal Level Theory and the Technology Acceptance Model, we propose that the users’ construal level of the e-learning system would interact with users’ perceptions of the system (i.e., the perceived ease of use [PEoU] and perceived usefu...

Choice Bracketing and Construal Level Theory: The Effects of Problem Representation and Mental Representation on Sequential Risk-Taking

Two important theories in intertemporal choice are choice bracketing and construal level theory (CLT), but their relationship to each other is unexplored. Broad bracketing (considering many choices in a sequence) may induce a more holistic approach to decisions, suggesting overlap between choice bracketing and CLT. We attempt to integrate the theories and distinguish their effects on risk-takin...

Temporal construal.

Construal level theory proposes that temporal distance changes people's responses to future events by changing the way people mentally represent those events. The greater the temporal distance, the more likely are events to be represented in terms of a few abstract features that convey the perceived essence of the events (high-level construals) rather than in terms of more concrete and incident...

Exploring Language Learners’ Cognitive Processes in On-line ESP Courses via Think-aloud Protocol Analysis

The present study aims to investigate language learners’ cognitive processes in on-line ESP courses. Three modes of inquiry are used: think-aloud protocol analysis, screen capture analysis, and correlation analysis. The theoretical foundations for the evaluation of the cognitive aspect of Ferdowsi Univeristy of Mashhad E-learning System are drawn from cognitive load theory, cognitive apprentice...

Construal-Level Effects on Preference Stability, Preference-Behavior Correspondence, and the Suppression of Competing Brands KARDES, CRONLEY, KIM CONSTRUAL-LEVEL EFFECTS

Construal level theory (Trope & Liberman, 2003) suggests that construal level—or the degree of abstractness of mental representations—increases with temporal, spatial, or sensory distance. Three experiments show that the mere presence of a set of target brands at the time a choice is made encourages consumers to represent the brands in memory in terms of concrete lower-level construals. Consequ...
